does being Christian mean not being ambitious?

Yesterday someone told me about their friend who was questioning whether his faith was right, living in San Francisco and being told by his pastor to be meek, humble, to not lift one’s head too high. Does this mean to not be ambitious? One should let go of their dreams and learn to be content with what they have, whatever it is they have—so he hears.
